Trails and Treasures Home Page  Road Trips  Across America 2004 Searching for Fred Harvey

Wellington, Kansas

Wellington was founded in 1871.  The AT&SF depot and Harvey House opened in 1883.  The beautiful stone building no longer exists.

Other Fred Harvey postcards feature: Birds Eye View, Business Section, Street Scene, Washington Avenue Looking North, Fifth Ward School, Community Park House, Hatcher Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, Christian Church, Congregational Church, First M. E. Church, and Waterworks Dam.

Of the buildings, only the Community Park House, First Christian Church, and Hatcher Hospital (now a museum) still exist.  The Business Street scene features the northwest corner of Washington Street at Harvey Street.  The First National Bank building in the postcard photo still exists, although it is no longer a bank.  The First M. E. Church was torn down for a new church, as was St. Luke's Hospital.  The lot where the Congregational Church stood now contains a bank.
