El Ortiz at Lamy

El Ortiz, the Fred Harvey-managed hotel and restaurant at Lamy, operated between 1910 and 1938.  It was demolished in 1943 after being partially destroyed by fire in 1939.  The El Ortiz was a small hotel with only 10 sleeping rooms for guests.  Its interior was designed by Mary Colter.

The Lamy Railroad and History Museum, located across from the station in the old "Legal Tender" building, contains an exhibit on the El Ortiz.
