Trolley #9 Trail

Trolley #9 ran from Catonsville Junction to Ellicott City.  The last 1.3 miles of the old railbed have been made into a paved rail trail.  Parking is available in the lot next to the Trolley Stop restaurant on Oella Road, just across the Patapsco River from Ellicott City.  Take the steps up to the right from the parking lot.

The trail almost immediately enters a rock cut with an old bridge overhead that rattles as cars pass over it.  While in the rock cut, you'll be walking on a boardwalk.  When you exit the rock cut, you'll begin to follow Coopers Branch on your left, and you'll feel as if you are far from civilization.  At .7 mile a trail leads up to the right to the Benjamin Banneker Museum.

The trail continues up the valley to Westchester Avenue.  On the other side of Westchester, you begin seeing houses on both sides of the trail and you'll be back in suburbia.
