Tahquitz and Indian Canyons

These canyons are located on the reservation of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Tahquitz Canyon has only recently reopened after being closed for 30 years, and to control access to this sensitive area, visitors must take a guided tour.  The tour began with a movie about the legend of Tahquitz who was ostracized from the tribe.  Supposedly he captured a maiden at the green pool and offered her freedom if she didn’t tell.  She told and died the next day.    www.tahquitzcanyon.com

The Indian Canyons are Palm, Murray and Andreas.  They are located off the same toll road.  Each provides a very different hiking experience, but the common thread is California fan palms.
