Tahquitz and Indian Canyons Hikes
The
Tahquitz Canyon hike was 1.8 miles roundtrip and took about 1 ½ hours with the
ranger. After several days of rain, the 60-foot waterfall was well worth the
hike.
Palm
Canyon Trail, which begins near the trading post run by the Agua Caliente Band
of Cahuilla Indians, goes for 15 miles up into the mountains. To one side are
the Santa Rosa Mountains and to the other are the San Jacinto Mountains. For
the first mile or so of the hike, the trail meanders among the numerous
California fan palms along the stream in the canyon. After a mile, the trail
climbs out of the canyon into more typical desert terrain.
At Murray Canyon, it’s a 2-mile hike up to the 7 Sisters waterfalls. Andreas Canyon was a 1-mile round-trip loop hike that was quite pleasant.
