Hiking
Exploration by foot provides opportunities for using one's senses to study and learn about the natural world up-close--listening to the birds, smelling the flowers, touching the rocks, seeing nature's wonders. It gives one a sense of where we humans fit in the grand scheme of the universe.
Hiking also provides opportunities for exploring places where once upon a time man lived and died, but no longer does. Ghost towns, battlefields, mines, timber camps, and even urban get-aways may now be part of a park, forest, or just plain abandoned to the natural elements.
