Hiking in Catoctin Mountain Park
Managed by the National Park Service, this park offers the closest thing to a mountain hike for those of us living near Annapolis. Hog Rock is the highest point on the hiking trails, but it's only 1610 ft. as compared to the visitor center at 920 ft. There are other "high" points--the Blue Ridge Summit Overlook, Thurmont Vista, Wolf Rock, and Chimney Rock, all of which provide spectacular views of the Monocacy Valley.
The one thing you won't see from any of these viewpoints is Camp David, which is hidden away in a corner of the park.
